Ao Denkou Jitsu is the study of vital point applications of traditional martial art techniques in theory and in practice. It uses the analysis of movements in forms to discern self-defence techniques by utilising vital point strikes, locks, throws and other approaches that may not be obvious without careful study.
It also includes the practice of complimentary techniques from a variety of martial arts in order to enhance the effectiveness of the art beyond that found in traditional forms.
Ao Denkou Jitsu is the name that has been selected to describe the style of martial arts that Professor Rick Clark is teaching.
Ao Denkou Kai is an organisation that has been formed in order to formalise the teachings that have been going on for some time. Ao Denkou is translatable as "Blue Lightning" hence the full name "Ao Denkou Jitsu" describes "Blue Lightning Techniques" or "Blue Lightning Method". There are a variety of meanings behind the name; an obvious choice for the lightning portion is the sensations caused by the kyusho that brought many of us to Professor Clark. The art itself is quite diverse in its influences (as is Professor Clark) but it is fundamentally based on Ryukyu Kempo, Tae Kwon Do Chung Do Kwan, Judo, Jujitsu, and Modern Arnis. Professor Rick Clark was born December 4 1948, and commenced training in 1962. Professor Clark currently holds · 8th Dan in Ryukyu Kempo · 7th Dan in Ju-Jitsu · 7th Dan in Tae-Kwon Do · 5th Dan in Chinese Kempo · 4th Dan in Judo · 3rd Dan in Modern Arnis · 1st Dan in Hapkido His teachings and methods are sought after world-wide and he regularly holds seminars on Vital Points, Grappling and applications hidden in the traditional forms, for martial artists of many different systems throughout the USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Ireland, Scotland, England, Wales, Norway and Sweden.
