The Influences of Sasori Te Karate Jutsu |

Wado Ryu Karate
Tracing the roots of any martial art is fraught with difficulty and the history of Wado Ryu is probably more difficult than most as it is a blending of many different martial arts, each one of which is a blending of other arts and Koryu, (Family style).
While Wado Ryu is undoubtedly karate, this is too much of a confining label, and largely Wado defies classification.
Martial arts have been around since the time that the first cave man squared up against his neighbour over a lump of meat or disputed piece of territory. However, it was not until ancient Greece, with an event called Pankration that hand-to-hand combat came to be recognised and trained as a specific skill to be developed.

Escrima
The martial art known as Escrima, or Arnis that was developed in the Philippines. It is for both self-defence and sport, involving fighting with one or two sticks, known as olisi, or bladed weapons or bare hands. The Filipinos are justifiably proud of their national sport and incredibly effective self-defence technique.
“Stick Fighting” as it is sometimes known is highly practical, ensuring that if you are forced into a fight, you can use whatever is available to survive, even your opponents weapon. This form of self-defence is ideal for women and young people as it requires speed and practicality to overcome the strength and weapons of the opponent.

Kyusho Jutsu
Kyusho Jutsu is the science of attacking tsubo, or pressure points around the body to cause pain, joint compliance, paralysis or numbness of limbs, or unconsciousness. Some of the principles are very easy to understand. Accidentally bang your elbow and it hurts like mad. Why? Because a nerve runs over the humorous bone, the funny-bone. Ever been given a dead leg? Catch that point just right and it can cause paralysis and numbness as well as excruciating pain. There is nothing mysterious about it, this is where the femoral nerve runs across the muscle.
So in essence, Kyusho Jutsu can be seen as a series of points on the body that respond in a known way when attacked in a prescribed manner. But there is much more to it than that.
